Statoil Increases Environmental Commitment on Norwegian Continental Shelf by 50%

Norway’s Statoil says it is increasing its environmental commitment on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) for 2020 by 50%.

"Since 2008, Statoil has had the aim of reducing CO2 emissions on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) by up to 800 000 tonnes by 2020. The company is already close to achieving this goal, four years ahead of time, and therefore increases the target by 50% to 1.2 million tonnes," Statoil wrote on its website on Wednesday

According to the Norwegian company, by 2020, it will reduce emissions on the NCS by an amount equivalent to the emissions from about 750,000 cars, or every third car in Norway.

“In Norway, we produce oil and gas with half of the CO2 emissions per unit of output compared to the global industry average. By aiming even higher now, we are reinforcing our leading role in the coming years as a low-emission producer of oil and gas,” Arne Sigve Nylund, executive vice president, Development and Production Norway (DPN), said on Wednesday.
