State of Victoria Won't Decide on CSG Fracking Yet

Government of the Australian state of Victoria would not say if it will end a moratorium on fracking for coal seam gas, ABC News reported.

Earlier this week, the Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) called on the government to give farmers the right to veto mining and exploration on private land.

The government is awaiting a report from former federal minister Peter Reith into issues around gas supply before making any decisions, ABC News quoted Deputy Premier Peter Ryan as saying.

"When Mr Reith reports to us, I anticipate to greater and lesser degrees that report will touch upon the matters that have been raised by the VFF, but we will wait and see once we have that report to hand," he said.

The Reith report was initially due mid-2013, ABC News said.
