SSE Gas Chief Joins Board

UK utility SSE (Scottish & Southern Energy) has appointed Martin Pibworth as board-level wholesale director with effect from September 1.

He has been with SSE since 1998 and a senior manager since 2012. In his current role, he is responsible for energy portfolio management, electricity generation, gas production, gas storage and energy supply and related services for industrial and commercial customers. As wholesale director, he will now have board-level responsibility for these business activities and for SSE's businesses in Ireland.

Prior to joining SSE, he worked in energy trading at Eastern Power and then at Total Gas Marketing. His appointment means that the number of executive directors on SSE's ten-strong board will revert to three, alongside CEO Alistair Phillips-Davies (a former wholesale director) and CFO Gregor Alexander.

SSE is the second largest UK-owned utility company and energy supplier in Britain, after Centrica.
