Spirit extends UK field's life with new find

UK operator Spirit Energy has extended the life of the Grove gas field in the UK North Sea with a new discovery, the company reported on August 26.

Spirit, majority-owned by energy group Centrica, said the Grove North East development well it had drilled had encountered carboniferous reservoirs, with around 250 ft of gas-bearing sandstones present. The well has been completed for production.

Thanks to the discovery, the working life of the Grove field has been extended from 2022 until at least 2028, Spirit said. It will provide an estimate on volumes found after the well has been flowing for a while and data collected.

"The Grove well demonstrates ability to deliver life extension opportunities in the North Sea basin, as we did with the Chestnut and York fields," Spirit's director for North Sea operated assets, Girish Kabra, commented.

Spirit operates Grove with a 92.5% interest, while its partner RockRose has 7.5%. The company has 12 operated and non-operated projects in the UK North Sea, and also works off the coasts of Norway and the Netherlands.
