Spirit Awards Morecambe Bay Decomm Work

Aberdeen-based contractor PD&MS Group said March 21 it has secured a trio of contracts worth over £10mn ($14mn) for UK late-life projects in the last six months.

The latest is a "multimillion-pound" contract from Spirit Energy (the Centrica/Bayerngas upstream joint venture) to decommission the topsides on two of its unmanned Morecambe Bay gas field drilling platforms, in the UK East Irish Sea.

The two-year campaign for Spirit Energy will see the PD&MS team handle decommissioning and operations on the DP3 and DP4 unmanned installations as they move into the end-of-life phase, after contributing to ongoing gas production from Spirit’s Morecambe Bay gas fields – which in the 1990s often produced more than one-fifth of UK's then roughly 100bn m3/yr gas production, as well as lorry-loads of sulphur.

PD&MS is supporting similar decommissioning projects of North Sea installations for two major operators through offshore heavy lift contractor, Allseas Group.
