Spanish Gas Demand Contracts 9.6% in 2020

Spanish gas demand has contracted by 9.6% this year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, transmission system operator Enagas reported on December 30, coming to 360 TWh.

Consumption was still up 3.1% on the level in 2018, however, and Enagas noted that consumption last year was exceptionally high because of increased deliveries of gas to the power sector. Total demand in December rose by 3.4% year on year, on the back of a recovery in industrial gas usage and colder temperature towards the end of the month.
