Sinopec's Southwest Unit Produces Record Gas

Chinese state Sinopec’s subsidiary, Southwest Oil and Gas Company (SOGC), produced a record 6.14bn m3 of natural gas in 2018, an increase of 75mn m3 over 2017, Sinopec said January 8.

Last year, SOGC consolidated the two main production areas in the middle and shallow layers of the western Sichuan and Yuanba gas fields and accelerated the construction of two new positions in the Weirong shale gas field and the western Sichuan gas field, Sinopec added.

SOGC, which is in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is engaged in oil and gas exploration, marketing and other related businesses in southwest China. Its oil and gas exploration areas are mainly in Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi.

Chinese state-owned explorers have ramped up output to meet strong domestic demand, which has been trending up over the last two years. China produced a record 14.3bn mof natural gas in November 2018, up 10.1% compared with the same month last year, according to the national statistics agency.
