Sinopec's Qingdao terminal to process higher LNG volumes this winter

Sinopec’s Qingdao import and regasification terminal is expected to process 3.15mn metric tons of LNG during winter, up 29% year/year, the state-run company said on November 15. The Chinese winter season officially runs from November 15 to March 15.

Qingdao LNG terminal, located in the port city of Qingdao, supplies gas and LNG to Shandong province and northern parts of China. Sinopec in August commissioned two new storage tanks of a capacity of 160,000 m3 each. The terminal’s handling capacity has now risen to 7mn mt/yr from 6mn mt/yr.

The work on the tanks began in November 2018 and was completed in May this year. The work on the next expansion phase is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023, doubling capacity to 14mn mt/yr.

In addition to Qingdao, Sinopec operates receiving terminals at Tianjin and Beihai.
