Sinopec's Fuling shale gas field passes production milestone

Sinopec-operated Fuling shale gas field has produced 40bn m3 of gas since it became operational in 2014, the Chinese state-owned company said on October 11.

The field is producing about 20mn m3/day of shale gas which can meet the gas demands of 40mn households, contributing to a speedy clean energy transition, Sinopec said.

Fuling, in central southwest China's Sichuan basin, became operational in 2014 and serves as a key source of supply for the Sichuan-East pipeline. Sinopec produced 6.7bn m3 of shale gas from the Fuling field in 2020, up 6% yr/yr, the company said in January. 

The company increased its estimate for proven reserves at the field by almost 192bn m3 in October last year
