Sinopec's Fuling LNG plant passes milestone

Chinese state-run energy company Sinopec on November 5 said its small-scale Fuling LNG plant produced 20,000 metric tons of the chilled fuel for the first time in a month in October. The plant processed 30mn m3 of gas last month, up 7.7% year/year, the company said.

The Fuling plant is China’s first LNG plant that processes shale gas into LNG. The plant underwent an overhaul in June this year and its output has been consistently increasing since then, Sinopec said. On August 27, the plant’s daily out exceeded 1mn m3 for the first time.

The company said that increasing output at the plant will ensure a steady supply of LNG to Chongqing and surrounding markets during the winter.

Sinopec’s Fuling shale gas field, in central southwest China's Sichuan basin, became operational in 2014.
