Sinopec Achieves CBM Milestone

Sinopec said February 8 that Yanchuannan, its first coalbed methane (CBM) field, has supplied over 100mn m3 of gas to Shanxi province since 2015.

Yanchuannan CBM field is located in Shanxi province, China. At present, the production scale of the field has reached 740,000 m3/d. The field has over 20bn m3 proven CBM reserves.

The Chinese government wants to encourage more CBM developments and is offering incentives to producers. Last year, it hiked incentive to yuan 0.3/m3, from yuan 0.2/m3; the move is aimed at encouraging exploration and production of the unconventional fuel and helping producers.
