Sinopec Updates on Fuling Field Production

Sinopec-operated Fuling shale gas field has produced 27bn m3 of gas in the last six years, Sinopec said November 21 in a statement.

Work on the Fuling field, located in central southwest China’s Sichuan basin, started in 2013 and the first phase of the project become fully operational in 2015. Fuling is the first shale gas project in China to achieve commercial production. Last year, it produced 6.02bn m3 and sold 5.78bn m3 of shale gas. According to Sinopec, the field supplies gas to central and eastern regions of China.

In recent years, four shale gas fields have been discovered in the Sichuan basin: Fuling, Weiyuan, Changning and Weirong. Earlier this week, Sinopec received approval from China's natural resources ministry to develop the Weirong shale gas field.
