Sinopec starts Wei 11 gas storage facility in north China

Chinese state-run Sinopec has started operations at the Wei 11 gas storage facility in Zhongyuan oilfield, it said on October 18. With this, the largest underground natural gas storage cluster in north China is now operational.

The Zhongyuan gas storage cluster now has three blocks, the Wen 23, Wen 96 and Wei 11 with a combined capacity of 10.03bn m3The newly built Wei 11 gas storage facility has a maximum capacity of 1.009bn m3. The daily peak shaving capacity of the Wei 11 is 5mn m3/day, which can meet the gas demands of 10mn households every day, Sinopec said.

Sinopec said it will have two more storage facilities, Wen 13 West and Bai 9, in the Zhongyuan up and running by the end of this year, adding an estimated 1.116bn m3 of gas storage capacity.
