Sinopec launches Shandong's 1st gas storage facility

Chinese state-run Sinopec on August 26 said it has commissioned Shandong province’s first natural gas storage facility at the Shengli oilfield.

The Yong-21 facility makes use of an abandoned gas reservoir. It has a design storage capacity of 500mn m3 and a daily peak shaving gas supply capacity of 1.98mn m3. It can meet the daily gas demand of 5mn households, Sinopec said.

Sinopec said it had accelerated the construction of gas storage facilities in recent years and tried to improve its gas storage peak shaving capabilities. The Wen-96, Jintan and Wen-23 storage facilities, handed over to the newly-formed national infrastructure operator PipeChina, played an important role in ensuring supply last winter, it said.

The company plans to build new storage sites at the oilfields of Central Plains, Shengli and northwest China this year.
