Sinopec Hikes Shale Gas Pipeline Capacity

Chinese state-owned explorer Sinopec has increased the capacity of the Fuling-Wangchang gas pipeline to 10bn m3/year from 6bn m3/year, the company said May 15.

The Fuling-Wangchang pipeline is China’s first high capacity shale gas pipeline and carries output from the Fulling shale gas field in the Sichuan basin. The route starts at the Baitao Industrial Zone in the Fuling district, Chongqing City, and ends at Wangchang township, Shizhu County, Chongqing City. It connects to company’s existing Sichuan-East China pipeline network, which sends gas to east China. The 136.4km-long pipeline was completed in April 2015.

The Sinopec-operated Fuling shale gas field is located in Chongqing in central southwest China. The first phase of Fuling went into production in 2015. It produced 6.02bn mof shale gas last year and Sinopec is aiming to raise output to 10bn m³/yr by 2020 .
