Sinopec Completes Shale Gas Pipe in Sichuan

State-run Sinopec on July 24 said it has completed and connected a gathering and transportation pipeline to the Weirong shale gas field located in the Sichuan province.

The pipeline has a total length of 48.2-km and a gas transmission capacity of 3bn m3/year. Sinopec got the approval to operate the Weirong shale gas field last year. The proven reserves of the shale gas field have been assessed at over 100 bn m3.

This is the second shale gas development Sinopec has secured approval to develop. The company also operates the Fuling field in Sichuan, one of the largest shale gas fields in China, which entered production in 2015. Since 2014, a total of four shale gas fields have been discovered in the Sichuan: Fuling, Weiyuan, Changning and Weirong.
