Sinopec Adds Reserves at Sichuan Field

Chinese state-run explorer Sinopec has added 83bn m3 of new gas reserves at its Chuanxi gas field in the Sichuan basin, it said on November 13. The reserves have been certified by the Chinese ministry of natural resources.

The cumulative reserves of the field now stand at 114bn m3. Chuanxi gas field is located on the western edge of the Sichuan basin and covers an area of about 138 km2. The field was discovered in 2018, Sinopec said.

Sinopec has expanded its exploration and development work since the start of the year, it said, in order to increase its reserves and raise production. The company launched development in April of the Weirong shale gas field, which at its peak will flow 3bn m3/year of gas.  It also increased its estimate for proven reserves at the Fuling shale gas field by almost 192bn m3 last month.

Four shale fields in total have been discovered in the Sichuan basin in recent years: Fuling, Weiyuan, Changning and Weirong.
