Singapore's First Fully LNG Fueled Power Plant Starts

Singapore’s PacificLight Power (PLP) on Tuesday started its 800 MW power plant, island nation’s first fully LNG fueled plant.

The $1.2 billion facility, situated on Jurong Isalnd, will be the largest consumer of LNG in the state, says news agency Reuters.

PLP currently supplies electricity to industrial users only, and its imports make up around 25 percent of BG Group's 2.6-2.7 million tpa (mtpa) contracted supply to Singapore’s first LNG terminal.

Singapore’s first terminal has been operational since May 2013 and began operations with two storage tanks and an initial throughput capacity of 3.5 Mtpa.

The South East Asian nation is looking to be a major LNG trading hub in Asia.
