Singapore Port Joins Sea/LNG

Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has joined Sea\LNG, a trade body that promotes LNG as a marine fuel, it said October 3.

“MPA recently joined Sea\LNG’s membership coalition to further drive and align MPA’s efforts with the global LNG bunkering supply chain. Sea\LNG is a global coalition of players in the LNG shipping value chain who works collaboratively to drive the widespread adoption of LNG as a marine fuel. By joining Sea\LNG, MPA hopes to foster greater confidence in the availability and reliability of LNG as a marine fuel now and in the future,” it said.

Other Sea\LNG’s members are: ABS, Carnival Corporation, Clean Marine Energy, DNV GL, Eagle LNG Partners, Engie, Exeno Yamamizu, Fearnleys, Gas Natural Fenosa, GE, GTT, JAX LNG, Keppel Gas Technology, K Line Group, Lloyd’s Register, MAN Diesel & Turbo, Marubeni Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsui & Co, Novatek Gas & Power, NYK Line, Petronet LNG, Port of Rotterdam, Qatargas, Shell, Societe Generale, Sumitomo Corporation, Total, TOTE Inc., Toyota Tsusho, Uyeno Group of Companies, Yokohama-Kawasaki International Port Corporation (YKIP), and Wartsila.

MPA will also publish an information sheet on the list of licensed bunker suppliers of low-sulphur fuels in Singapore by mid-2019. The information sheet will be made available online. It will form a new work group with the industry to embark on an industry road mapping exercise to prepare the Singapore bunker industry for the future. The work group will develop a roadmap that will include drivers such as digitalisation and innovation, and transparency and productivity in the sector. The work group will work towards completing the roadmap by the end of next year, it said. In 2014, MPA formed an international focus group to deepen co-operation and information sharing on LNG bunkering. The focus group at present has 11 participants.

Singapore’s senior state minister for transport and health Lam Pin Min addressed the Singapore International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition which took place October 3. “Outside of Singapore, MPA continues to work closely with ten other like-minded ports through the LNG Bunkering Port Focus Group. I am glad to note that the focus group will be releasing a joint timeline today, showing the readiness of each port to provide LNG bunkering facilities. I am also happy to welcome to the focus group our first Middle Eastern partner – Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority. The growing membership will strengthen the global network of LNG bunkering facilities and give shipping lines more confidence to invest in LNG-fuelled vessels,” he said.
