Singapore Plans to Appoint New LNG Term Importers

Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) has issued a request for proposal to appoint up to two new LNG term importers for the city-state, it said on July 9 in a statement. Singapore at present has two LNG term importers - Pavilion Energy and Shell.

“Having more LNG term importers in the market will enhance competition and provide more options for gas buyers,” EMA said. “Natural gas is one of four switches in Singapore’s energy story towards a more reliable, affordable and cleaner energy future. It is expected to be the dominant fuel for Singapore in the near future as we scale up our renewable energy options.”

Interested parties are invited to submit proposals that will be evaluated based on their ability to provide reliable, secure and competitive supply of LNG, EMA said. Proposals must be submitted by November 9, 2020.
