Siemens Wins Kuwait Order

Germany’s Siemens said July 4 it has won an order to supply the key power generation equipment for the 900-MW Sabiya Extension 3 combined-cycle gas turbine power plant (CCGT) in Kuwait. It did not disclose the contract value.

The contract was awarded by the plant owner, the ministry of electricity and water, to Kuwaiti turnkey contractor Alghanim International for execution of engineering, procurement and construction.

The Sabiya Extension 3 CCGT, being built on the site of the Sabiya power plant in the Bay of Kuwait in the country’s northeast, will also be operable with fuel oil as a back-up.

The plant will start simple cycle operation in winter of 2019. Commissioning as a CCGT is due end-2020. The equipment order is Siemens fourth from Kuwait in as many years, and it will also service the plant for more than eight years.
