Siemens to Supply Gas Turbines to US Chemicals Plant

Germany's Siemens Gas and Power said April 14 it had been selected to provide a trio of 33-MW gas turbines to Ascend Performance Materials’ specialty chemicals facility in Decatur, Alabama.

Under the terms of an eight-year program, Siemens will perform all outage inspections at the US plant, and at the time of the first inspection, will upgrade existing generator sets with its SGT-700B industrial gas turbines to operate in a cogeneration application.

The project will allow Ascend to retire assets that currently provide process steam for the facility and reduce its environmental footprint. The turbines will be manufactured in Siemens’ Finspang plant in Sweden and will be commissioned in Q4 2021.
