Sichuan Province's Q1 Gas Production Jumps

Natural gas production in China’s Sichuan province in the three months to March 31 (Q12019) was 8.64bn m3, up 14.7% year-on-year, CNPC reported May 6 on its information website citing data from Sichuan Development and Reform Commission.

Production of shale gas in Q1 was 1.69bn m3, an increase of 79% compared with the same period of previous year.

China is working on building a substantial shale gas infrastructure and has achieved significant progress in last few years. The country’s technically recoverable shale gas reserves increased by 62% year-on-year in 2017 to reach 916.8bn m3, according to the natural resources ministry.

Sichuan province is China’s primary shale gas producing region. Since 2014, four shale gas fields have been discovered in the Sichuan basin: Fuling, Weiyuan, Changning and Weirong.
