Shourijeh Facility Expected to Help Reduce Iran's Imports of Turkmen Gas

Recently opened gas storage facilities in Shourijeh is expected to lower Iran's natural gas imports from Turkmenistan, according to a senior Iranian gas official.

However, the official added that the facility cannot completely eliminate the need to import Turkmen gas, reported Shana News.

Iran has a contract to import 40 mcm/d of gas from Turkmenistan while the latter only delivers 23 to 24 mcm/d.

Shourijeh facility, located 25 kilometers southeast of Sarakhs in northwestern Iran, can store up to 4.8 bcm of gas.

The volume of gas injection into the facility currently stands at 7.5 mcm/d, Shana said.

According to the news agency, over the coming seven months, 5 mcm/d of gas would have been stored in Shourijeh. Next winter, 9 mcm/d of gas could be withdrawn from the facility.
