Shell Thailand Mulls LNG Foray

Royal Dutch Shell's Thai unit is looking for greater opportunities in liquefied natural gas (LNG) market to meet rising domestic demand.

The Shell Company of Thailand Ltd would be keen to get into the lucrative LNG business, be it trading, regasification or retail compressed natural gas (CNG), company’s chairperson Pissawan Achanapornkul was quoted by Bangkok Post as saying.

"Thailand will maintain its strong demand for natural gas in the coming years," she said.

Pissawan said Shell has strength in the gas business from upstream to downstream, with technology, capital, management and human resources all set to support the Thai operation in this endeavour.

"We're ready to jump on the bandwagon if the market is liberalised," she said.

In this region, Shell has already started LNG trading with Japan.
