Shell Sees Asia Driving Gas Demand

Demand for natural gas is expected to be robust with Asia commanding some 40% of the growth by 2030.

“Gas demand is expected to grow by 2% per annum in the next 20 years and the bulk of that demand will come from Asia as its economy is more robust,” The Star online quoted Shell’s executive vice-president for upstream international integrated gas Maarten Wetselaar as saying

Wetselaar pointed that Shell was poised to take advantage of this bullish trend after having invested substantially in natural gas exploration, production, technology and transportation.

For example, there is a lot of room growth for gas demand in China as gas only makes up only 4% of energy mix usage in the country, The Star quoted him as saying.

“Gas resources are plentiful and it meets the important criteria of energy demand where it must be available, affordable and acceptable,” Wetselaar told reporters in a tele-conferencing session during a media visit to Qatar.
