Shell, Reliance Power to Set Up LNG Terminal

Shell and Reliance Power have agreed to jointly construct a 5 million-tonne per annum floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Andhra Pradesh by 2014. The two parties have also roped in Kakinada port as a partner.

The 5 million-tonne per annum capacity of the terminal can be expanded to 10 million-tonne per annum.

Shell also operates a 3.6 million-tonne a year capacity LNG terminal at Hazira in Gujarat. Petronet LNG., too, is building a 5 million-tonne facility at Gangavaram in Andhra Pradesh. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), too, is doing a front-end engineering and design (FEED) study for a terminal at Ennore in Tamil Nadu.
