Shell delivers first gas from Timi platform in Malaysia

Sarawak Shell Berhad (SSB), a subsidiary of Shell, has started gas production at the Timi platform in Malaysia as part of the SK318 production sharing contract (PSC), the company announced on August 28.

Timi platform is Shell's first wellhead platform in Malaysia to be powered by solar and wind power. According to Shell, the Timi platform is around 60% lighter than conventional tender-assisted drilling wellhead platforms, which typically rely on traditional oil and gas power sources.

Zoe Yujnovich, Shell's integrated gas and upstream director, remarked, "Timi demonstrates we are delivering more value with less emissions. Bringing the project online is also an example of our focus on performance, discipline, and simplification. It shows our ability to innovate and deliver safe, reliable, and sustainable projects that support a balanced energy transition for Malaysia."

The Timi platform is designed with the capacity to produce up to 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day of gas during peak production. The gas extracted will be transported through a newly constructed 80-km pipeline to the F23 production hub.

Beyond immediate operations, this project aligns with plans for future expansion in the central Luconia area, positioned off the coast of Sarawak, Shell said.

Timi is a gas field found in 2018 as part of the SK318 PSC. SSB is the operator and holds a 75% equity. Other stakeholders include Petronas Carigali (15%) and Brunei Energy Exploration (10%).
