Poland Shale Gas Wells Under Environmental Surveillance

The General Directorate for Environmental Protection in Poland has announced plans to permanently monitor five shale gas wells in Poland.

Examinations results would be a base to create a list of the best practices – announced the head of the Generalna Dyrekcja Ochrony Srodowiska (GDOS) Michal Kielsznia, adding that best practice guidelines for shale gas industry in Poland should be ready in 2014.

Monitoring will start before spudding and go through all stages, including production.  Kielsznia said that air, water, ground, seismic and other parameters will be checked.

The program is a common undertaking of GDOS and the Ministry of Environment, which is also responsible for issuing concessions and mining usufruct rights.

The General Directorate for Environmental Protection is responsible for implementation of environmental protection policy in Poland and conducts the tasks related to prevention and remedying environmental damage.
