Serinus Energy Commences Exploratory Well in Romania

Canada-headquartered Serinus Energy commenced drilling in its Satu Mare Concession in Romania. The company is controlled by Poland’s richest man Jan Kulczyk.

‘Serinus Energy, is pleased to report that the Moftinu-1001 exploration well has commenced drilling,’ reads a note released on Wednesday.

Drilling operations should take 18 days, with a planned total depth of 1,848 metres. The rig will then move to a second location after drilling and casing Moftinu-1001.

‘The Moftinu-1001 and 1002bis locations have been selected using 3D seismic and are targeting Miocene and Pliocene aged sands at depths between 1,800 – 2,000 metres, within structural closures in combination with seismic amplitude anomalies. Both wells are expected to be drilled and cased by mid-December, and completion and testing will commence in late January 2015.’

Earlier this week, the Prime Minister of Romania Victor Ponta stated that the country has not significant reserves of shale gas, but Chevron replied saying that it is still analysing the data gathered through drilling and seismic testings.
