Sempra Energy Names Investment Banker New President

US infrastructure specialist Sempra Energy announced May 13 that George W. Bilicic has been named group president.

An investment banking veteran with long experience in energy, Bilicic will lead the company's strategy, corporate development, and legal activities, reporting to Jeffrey W. Martin, chairman and CEO.

Bilicic will start his role with Sempra upon completion of his service as vice chairman of investment banking with Lazard later this year. He also serves as global head of power, energy and infrastructure for the New York-based investment banking firm.

Calling Bilicic “an outstanding strategist,” Martin in particular noted the new hire’s “deep experience in the capital markets”. Prior to joining Lazard, Bilicic served as managing director and head of infrastructure at global investment firm KKR and as a managing director at Merrill Lynch in its mergers and acquisitions department.

Sempra Energy's stated mission is to become North America's premier energy infrastructure company. With 2018 reported revenues of more than $11.6bn, the San Diego-based company is the utility holding company with the largest U.S. customer base.
