SDX Ends Campaign on a High

London-listed North Africa gas explorer SDX Energy announced May 8 a gas find onshore Morocco this week as it ended a successful drilling campaign. It also spudded its latest well onshore Egypt.

The LMS-1 well on the Lalla Mimouna permit (SDX 75 %) encountered 16.4 metres of net conventional gas pay sands with the possibility of liquids too. The drill rig will now go back to the contractor. Of the nine wells, seven made discoveries.

SDX CEO Paul Welch said: “The [positive] results of our last two exploration wells have opened up a very significant new play area for us in the Gharb basin. Whilst the group is on track to double overall production in 2018, this provides us with the ability to further grow our reserves and production potential in Morocco, where we are targeting a four-fold increase in production from our current portfolio in the medium term.”

SDX also spudded the Kelvin-1X exploration well onshore South Disouq, Egypt (SDX 55%, operator) as part of a four-well campaign; last month it made a find with its Ibn Yunus-1X exploration well.
