SDX Drills Deep, But No More Gas

Toronto and AIM-listed SDX Energy said May 5 it did not make a commercial gas discovery at the deeper target of its SD-1X well at its South Disouq concession in Egypt’s onshore Nile Delta area.

The well was drilled to 11,068 ft and found some hydrocarbons present. But SDX said these were not sufficient to justify drilling any further. The well will be completed and the rig then released. “A detailed testing program will be undertaken after the rig has been moved off location,” said the company.

SDX made a gas discovery last month at the same SD-1X well at its original target depth of 7,777 ft which it said had provided new information that would enable it and partners to further explore its potential within the large 1,275 km² South Disouq concession.

The company has other exploration interests in Egypt, and also onshore Morocco.
