Savannah starts gas sales to new Nigerian customer

London-listed Savannah Energy announced on November 2 that it had commenced gas sales to a power plant owned by First Independent Power (FIPL) in Afam, Nigeria, under a contract signed in early 2020.

The Afam power station has a 180-MW capacity. It has started receiving gas following the completion of a short pipeline that connects the facility with the network of Savannah's Accugas subsidiary. The average daily nomination for deliveries this week is 25mn ft3/day, but they can reach a maximum of 35mn ft3/d, Savannah said.

Savannah CEO Andrew Knott said that the launch of gas sales to the Afam plant was one of the company's key performance goals for 2021.

"This marks our entry into the high growth Port Harcourt Industrial area," he said. "We look forward to developing our relationship further with FIPL over the coming months and are excited to continue our role as the gas supplier of choice to the Nigeria power sector."

The deal with FIPL, a subsidiary of Sahara group, is one of five gas sales agreements that Savannah has in place for supplies from its Uquo, which the company estimates to contain 458bn ft3 in proven and probable reserves.
