Saudi Aramco Begins Gas Production at Offshore Hasbah Field

Saudi Aramco has begun gas production at the offshore Hasbah field, the company said Tuesday in its weekly magazine The Arabian Sun.

“The successful commissioning of the Hasbah gas field, which along with Arabiyah will feed nonassociated gas to Wasit gas plant, marks a shift for Saudi Aramco to become a leader in offshore gas production, and should be seen as a source of pride for the entire company,” the company said.

Hasbah and Arabiyah together will produce 2.5 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas per day through the Wasit gas plant when completed. Supplies from the plant are expected to increase Saudi Arabia gas availability by more than 20 percent.

Saudi Arabia has sharpened focus on gas exploration, as it aims to burn less crude oil for power generation and water desalination.
