Samsung Heavy Bags Order for Two LNG Carriers

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has received an order worth won 419bn ($380mn) for two LNG carrier from Denmark’s Celsius Tankers, it said January 29.

The two vessels, with capacity of 180,000 m3, will be fitted with SHI's eco-friendly and smart ship technologies ­­- Saver Air and Intelliman Ship. “This will help to respond to the upcoming environmental regulations and significantly increase energy saving, thereby further increasing the operational efficiency of vessels,” SHI said.

According to SHI, these technologies are expected to save 5% on fuel irrespective of the external environment such as waves and current.

This year, the company expects to receive $7.8bn worth of new orders, up 24% on year owing to pick up in new building market globally, particularly for LNG ships and container ships.
