Samsung Bags Order for Two LNG-Fuelled VLCCs

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries has bagged an order to build two LNG-fuelled very large crude carriers (VLCCs), it said April 14 in a statement.

The order, worth $209.2mn, has been placed by an unnamed Bermuda-based shipowner. The VLCCs will be delivered by April 2022, Samsung Heavy said.

The VLCCs will be equipped with S-Fugas, an LNG fuelling system developed by Samsung Heavy. These vessels will comply with the new International Maritime Organisation’s low sulphur regulation which took effect at the start of this year, the company said.
