Samsung Heavy Bags LNG Carrier Order

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has received an order worth won 215bn ($191mn) for an LNG carrier from an Asian shipowner, it said March 22 without disclosing the identity of the shipowner.

The carrier is expected to be delivered by March 22. Samsung Heavy did not provide any further details about the vessel.

With this, the company has till now received orders worth $1.3bn for seven LNG carrier this year. In January, the company said it expects to receive $7.8bn worth of new orders for the full year, up 24% on year owing to pick up in new building market globally, particularly for LNG ships and container ships.
