Samsung Wins LNG Tanker Order

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) said December 31 that it receives an order to build a new LNG carrier worth about South Korean won 209bn ($187mn).

It said the order was placed by a European shipowner, which it did not disclose, and that the ship is scheduled to be delivered in March 2021.

SHI said that takes its total 2018 order book to 49 vessels worth a total of $6.3bn, which includes 18 LNG carriers, 13 containerships, 15 tankers, and 3 special purpose ships. Three of the earlier LNG carrier orders were announced on November 20 and 24.
