Saipem wins extra Qatari North Field work

Italian upstream services company Saipem said April 13 that Qatargas had exercised a $350mn option for extra work under a contract at the giant North Field gas reservoir offshore Qatar.

Building on an award announced in late February, the Italian company said it would work for Qatargas to reroute production from the North Field because of the decommissioning of existing pipeline infrastructure.

“The activities to be carried out comprise the construction of two additional riser platforms, two additional connecting bridges with existing wellhead platforms, two corrosion resistant carbon steel cladded intra-field pipelines with a length of 13 km overall and decommissioning of existing pipeline,” Saipem explained.

The North Field is undergoing a $28.8bn expansion, with Saipem winning a $1.7bn engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract in February for offshore facilities.
