Russia to Resume Turkmen Gas Imports

Russia is to resume gas imports from Turkmenistan from next January, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said in an interview with Turkmen state news agency TDH October 10.

He visited the Turkmen president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov the day before. In this connection, the parties discussed various issues concerning the implementation of the current intergovernmental agreement between the countries on co-operation in the gas sector until 2028, including the restart of Turkmen gas purchases from the beginning of next year.

“With regards to the volumes of gas supplies and other issues of contract relations, we will have other negotiations on technical level, expect that this agreement will be achieved very soon,” Miller added.

Turkmenistan blamed Russia for the pipeline explosion that stopped exports in 2009. Gazprom did not provide NGW with any details of the trip, although it was recorded on its website, which named the delegates and stated baldly: "The meeting reviewed the prospects of Russian-Turkmen co-operation in the gas sector."
