Russia-Belarus Update: Cuts now at 40%

Russia's state-run gas monopoly Gazprom is continuing to increase pressure on Belarus by further reducing deliveries by 40%.

Chief Executive Alexei Miller said, "From 10:00 [Moscow time] a delivery cut to 60% is introduced."

Meanwhile, the European Commission has called an emergency meeting over the Russia-Belarus gas dispute, which threatens gas supplies to Europe.

Marlene Holzner, a  Commission spokeswoman, said that a working meeting would be held with the Belarusian side.

Holzner said earlier on Tuesday Russian gas cuts to Belarus may affect 6.25% of EU consumption volumes.
