Rig count higher in both Canada, US: Baker Hughes

The weekly count of active rigs moved higher in both Canada and the US for the week ended September 24, drilling services company Baker Hughes said in its regular survey.

In the US, an additional 10 rigs were added to the oil-directed total, while one gas-directed rig was idled. That boosted the US total to 521 active rigs from 512 for the week ended September 17.

In Canada, one active oil-directed rig was added alongside six drilling for gas, with one listed as miscellaneous, bringing the national total to 162, up eight from the previous week. Alberta added seven rigs, boosting the total there to 113, while the active count in British Columbia rose by one, to 19.
