Reverse Flow Plans From Slovakia to Ukraine Fail on Technical Aspects

Slovak and Ukrainian officials failed to clinch an agreement on supplies of natural gas from Slovakia to Ukraine, Slovak Ministry of Economy spokesman Stanislav Jurikovič confirmed to Czech News Agency after the meeting in Veľké Kapušany, in eastern Slovakia.

The meeting, which was also attended by representatives of Eustream and Ukrtransgaz, was meant to finalise the long-held negotiations on the new interconnector. An agreement would allow the reverse flow from Slovakia to Ukraine through the Vojany gas pipeline.

According to the Prague Post, the two sides had different positions on technical aspects of the reverse gas flow. The parts will now continue the talks in order to reach a common position.

‘The solution under preparation will assist in securing the diversification of transmission routes for Ukraine and contribute to preserving the energy security,’ reads a note released by Eustream on Monday to announce the meeting
