Ratch, Gulf Energy receive inaugural LNG cargo for Hin Kong Power Plant

Thailand's Ratch Group and Gulf Energy Development have received the first LNG cargo of 62,000 tonnes to supply the 700-MW Hin Kong Power Plant, Gulf Energy said on February 28.

The LNG cargo was imported by Hin Kong Power, a joint venture established by Ratch Group and Gulf Energy Development, through the Map Ta Put LNG terminal

Thailand has been opening up its LNG sector which state energy company PTT has dominated. It has awarded LNG import licences to a number of companies, including Hin King. Other firms with LNG shipping licences are Egco, B.Grimm, state-run PTT Global LNG, Egat, Gulf Energy Development, and Siam Cement Group.

Hin Kong has developed a 1.4 GW gas-fired power plant in Thailand. In 2024, Hin Kong plans to import approximately 0.64mn tonnes of LNG to fuel the Hin Kong Power Plant, Gulf Power said.

Last year, Hin King signed an LNG deal with Gunvor.
