Queensland announces 2021 exploration programme

The Queensland government on November 24 announced the release of the 2021 Queensland Exploration Programme (QEP).

The QEP provides a release schedule of exploration opportunities for greenhouse gas storage areas and petroleum and gas across Queensland, with tenders opening in December 2021, the state's department of resources said.

The programme includes four areas and will provide successful tenderers with the opportunity to investigate potential sites for CO2 storage within the geological basins underlying the tender areas. These are within the Surat/Bowen, Galilee and Eromanga basins. The tender closes in March 2022 and the winners will be announced in May.

For gas and petroleum exploration, the programme includes eight tender areas across the Bowen, Bowen/Surat, Eromanga and Adavale basins. The tender areas provide opportunities for coalbed methane and other unconventional gas, and for conventional oil and gas exploration. The tender closes in March 2022 and the winners will be announced in May.
