Quebec utility seeks additional RNG supplies

Quebec utility Energir said November 18 it had issued a request for proposals (RFP) seeking additional supplies of renewable natural gas (RNG) to help it get to provincially-mandated targets.

Under legislation passed by the Quebec National Assembly in 2019, distributors in the province are required to be delivering 2% of their system supply in the form of RNG by 2023. Energir wants to meet this target and eventually reach 5% by 2025.

Its first of three planned RFPs seeks proposals totalling nearly 50mn m3 from organic feedstocks, with similar requests anticipated in 2022 and 2023. The supply can be sourced from anywhere in North America, but must be available by October 2023, Energir said.

The RFP is open until the close of business on January 21, 2022.
