Qatar's QP to Integrate Petchems

Top LNG exporter Qatar Petroleum (QP) announced on June 11 it planned to integrate Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution (Muntajat) into its operations, as part of efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of its downstream business.

Muntajat markets polyethylene and other petrochemical products like methanol, methyl tert-butyl ether and linear alkyl benzene produced by Qatari companies, along with fertilisers and metals. Its integration into QP is expected to be completed within the next few months, the national gas company said.

QP CEO Saad Sherida al-Kaabi said it was a "strategic move that will further strengthen our downstream capabilities and enhance the state of Qatar's global competitive position in the downstream sector."

The company earlier this year said it would integrate Seef, a joint venture it has with Qatari public company UDC that operates a 100,000 mt/yr linear alkyl benzene plant at QP's refinery in Mesaieed.
