QatarEnergy enters Suriname offshore exploration

QatarEnergy on May 9 announced that it has entered into two production sharing contracts for Blocks 6 & 8 offshore Suriname, after successful bids for these blocks were made in June 2021.

The Qatari state-owned company will hold a 20% working interest in both blocks, with TotalEnergies (operator) and Staatsolie’s affiliate, Paradise Oil Company, sharing the remaining working interest equally.

The partners plan to carry out licensing of the new 3D seismic and associated exploration activities in the blocks.

The blocks are located in the southern part of offshore Suriname, adjacent to Block 58, with water depths ranging from 40 to 65 meters.

Ali Abdulla Al-Mana, the manager of international upstream & exploration, represented QatarEnergy during the contract signing ceremony hosted by Staatsolie, Suriname’s state oil company in Paramaribo.
