Qatar Signs 2nd Deal to Supply LNG to Kuwait

Qatargas announced on February 10 it had signed a contract with Shell to supply 1mn mt/yr of LNG to Kuwait starting this year.

The deal comes just over a month after Qatargas’ parent company Qatar Petroleum (QP) reached an agreement with Kuwait Petroleum to deliver up to 3mn mt/yr of LNG to the small Gulf State over a 15-year period.

The duration of the new contract was not disclosed, although it was described as long-term.

“These agreements demonstrate our commitment to Kuwait, which is a very important LNG market,” Qatari energy minister Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi said in a statement.

Al-Kaabi, who also serves as QP’s CEO, added that the new deal cemented Qatargas’ position as a market leader. The LNG will be supplied by Qatargas 4, a 70-30 joint venture between QP and Shell.
